Schiedamskhē′däm', city (1994 pop. 72,515), South Holland prov., W Netherlands, on the Nieuwe Maas (New Meuse) River, near Rotterdam. It is famous for its gin, which is widely exported. There are also shipyards and factories that manufacture chemicals, glass, and lumber. The city's noteworthy structures include a 14th-century church, the 16th-century town hall, and the ruins of a 13th-century castle.

Schiedam is a city and municipality in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. It is part of the Rotterdam metropolitan area. It is known its historical center with its canals, and the tallest old windmills in the world. Schiedam is also known for jenever - such as the internationally-renowned Ketel One - so much so that in English the word schiedam refers to the town's Holland gin.
