Massenaməsē'nə, village (1990 pop. 11,719), St. Lawrence co., extreme N N.Y., on the St. Lawrence River; settled 1792, inc. 1886. Aluminum and aluminum products are the chief manufactures. Two locks and two dams of the St. Lawrence Seaway are nearby. Massena is in a summer resort area and has a state park. An international bridge connects the village with Cornwall, Ontario.

André Masséna (redirected from Massena) 1st Duc de Rivoli, 1st Prince d'Essling was a French military commander during the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. Masséna was one of the original eighteen Marshals of the Empire created by Napoleon. His nickname was l'Enfant chéri de la Victoire. Napoleon said of Masséna: he was "the greatest name of my military Empire." According to Donald D. Horward, "Masséna's military career was equaled by few commanders in European history.
