Kouvola, city (1996 pop. 31,986), located in Kymen prov., SE Finland. It is an important railroad junction on the line running from St. Petersburg to Helsinki and a transportation center for goods heading toward both Asia and Europe. The site of Finland's largest railyard, it is also a distribution point for the Vyborg-Finland natural-gas pipeline. The city is a paper-milling, pulp-producing, and printing center and has a strong industrial engineering sector. Kouvola's educational institutions include a music college and a business economics institute.

Kouvola is a town and municipality in southeastern Finland. It is located northeast of the capital, Helsinki. The city has a population of and covers an area of of which is water. The population density is. Kouvola's central location within Finland's borders and as a border post between the European Union and Russian Federation makes it a quite lively town.
