Tromstrôms, trooms, county (1995 pop. 150,606), c.10,070 sq mi (26,080 sq km), N Norway, bordering on the Norwegian Sea (an arm of the Atlantic Ocean) in the west and on Sweden and Finland in the east. Tromsø is the capital. The county has many deep fjords and numerous offshore islands, including some of the Vesterålen group. Fishing, canning, stock raising, and boatbuilding are the main industries, and there is also some mining and farming.

or Romsa is a county in North Norway, bordering Finnmark to the northeast and Nordland in the southwest. To the south is Norrbotten Län in Sweden and further southeast is a shorter border with Lapland Province in Finland. To the west is the Norwegian Sea. The entire county is located north of the Arctic circle. Until 1919 the county was formerly known as Tromsø amt. On 1 July 2006, the Northern Sami name for the county, Romsa, was granted official status along with Troms. The county is, like the city of Tromsø, named after the island Tromsøya.
