Bogalusabōgəloo'sə, city (1990 pop. 14,280), Washington parish, SE La.; inc. 1914. It is a manufacturing and trading center of the Pearl River valley. Its name derives from the Native American–named creek, Bogue Lusa (smoky or dark waters), that flows through the city. Bogalusa was founded in 1906 when the lumber industry established operations in the region's extensive pine woods. Manufactures include textiles, fabricated metal and wood products, food, machinery, and furniture. Louisiana State Univ.'s forestry school is located there.

Bogalusa (redirected from Bogalusa) is a city in Washington Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 13,365 at the 2000 census. It is the principal city of the Bogalusa Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Washington Parish and is also part of the larger New Orleans–Metairie–Bogalusa Combined Statistical Area.
Bogalusa was the home of B.B. "Sixty" Rayburn, Sr., a 44-year member of the Louisiana State Senate, a confidant of the Long dynasty, and favorite of organized labor.
